Cottaging, or going to the cottage, might be considered as the favorite
Ontario leisure time activity. The question "Where are you going
for the weekend?" when answered "to the cottage", can mean
anything from a cabin in or near Algonquin

Lake, to summer in Muskoka, Wasaga Beach, or Georgian Bay, or Haliburton.

and family fun, or any number of activities associated with accommodation
by a lake where the informal setting means rest and relaxation. The May
24 weekend signals the start to cottage season in Ontario and ends for
the seasonal cottager on the Labour Day Weekend or the Canadian Thanksgiving
weekend. Many consider a cottage vacation similar to a cottage retreat,
or quiet cottage getaway.Cottages today come in various sizes, amenities,
bathroom types, and number of bedrooms. Many people own private cottages,
and rent them out, where the vast majority of Ontario residents are looking
for cottage rentals, or cottage resorts mostly for a week of cottaging
up north or just for a weekend getaway with friends or family. The newest
trend in cottaging is fractional cottage ownership where one can rent
a luxury fractional residence,
or share in the purchase of a cottage usually
in a block of 5 weeks.
