SORRY…I'M CANADIAN
Colourful Canadian Musical comes to King's Wharf Theatre
PENETANGUISHENE
– The King's Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene
will have theatregoers doubled over in laughter with its third production
of the season, Sorry… I'm Canadian.
This imaginative Canadian show entertains audiences young and old
with its winning combination of side-splitting humour, razor-sharp
political satire, lively dancing, and multitude of memorable musical
selections that celebrate all things Canadian.
Following a sold-out run at the Drayton Festival Theatre
in 2006, and an acclaimed concert version with the Kitchener-Waterloo
Symphony earlier this year, Sorry…I'm Canadian is poised for
similar success at the King's Wharf Theatre during its three-week
engagement, July 16th through August 2nd.
"Sorry…I'm Canadian
is a fresh take on what it means to be Canadian," says Alex
Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment. "This
is our way of celebrating our unique heritage and taking pride in
the tremendous accomplishments we have achieved as a nation."
The innovative concept of Sorry…I'm
Canadian is the perfect vehicle to showcase the talents
of the unique cast of performers including popular entertainer Neil
Aitchison, who takes on the role of RCMP Constable Archibald
F. Inkster.
Through Constable Inkster's hilarious musings, no political
party, pop star or public figure is left unscathed. Aitchison is truly
a gifted comedian, and his relaxed, jovial delivery adds an extra
zing to his one-liners.
Constable Inkster will be in good company with an all-star
four-piece band comprised of Duncan Cameron (Fiddle),
Bobby Prochaska (Bass), Mark Stewartson (Banjo)
and Danny Williams (Guitar). This fantastic foursome
will wow theatregoers with their versatility as they present lively
and heartfelt renditions of music from the quintessential Great
Canadian Songbook.
"We are exploring every musical genre, from pop
to bluegrass, jazz to country," says Mustakas. "With such
a varied, eclectic song list, you won't be able to resist clapping
your hands and joining in the fun!"
Dave Broadfoot, a national comedic
treasure, also provided some signature satiric quips to the script,
resulting in a clever, timely production that snaps, crackles, and
pops.
Injecting the production with another dose of high-octane
energy is The Ballagh Bunch. These four Teeswater
siblings know how to dance up a storm, and show great step dancing
technique in the process. From the tallest to the smallest, Devan
(17), Michael (15), Paige (13) and
Matthew (8) Ballagh are born to entertain.
The cast is rounded out by Constable Inkster's dimwitted
nephew, Clifford F. Inkster, played in true straight-faced comedic
fashion by Frank Parks.
