Heritage Week Starts on Family Day-February 18, 2008—Canada’s
National Heritage Day—Events, festivals, lectures, movies, walks,

The Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) has designated the
third Monday every February as Heritage Day in Canada. The Ontario government
designated the third week in February as Ontario Heritage Week, with the
federal Heritage Day kicking off the week.
Many heritage-based organizations and municipalities have
used Heritage Day and Ontario Heritage Week as vehicles to stimulate awareness
of heritage resources and heritage-related issues within their communities.

Two short films – Railway days in Haliburton
Saturday, February 23
The railway forged a vital link between Haliburton's remote wilderness
and civilization to the south. Author/historian Leopolda Dobrzensky tells
the story in a 10-minute documentary by award-winning Ryerson University
film student Charles Taylor. Local residents share personal recollections
in the second film "Old Rails, Remembered Tales," captured at
a live event by Highlands Media Arts. Screening aptly takes place in the
restored train station, now a public gallery and arts centre.
Haliburton Village is at the crossroads of Hwy 118 (east of Bracebridge)
and County Road 21 (northeast of Minden). Admission is free or by donation.
Seating is limited, so please call ahead to reserve before making the
journey.
