The Briars Hosts Tour de Greenbelt Cyclists
End Of 50K Day Celebration Focused On Local Harvest
September
2008
On Sunday September 21st, cyclists finishing a ‘green adventure’
past farms and lakeshore vistas, will be treated to an outdoor BBQ prepared
by Executive Chef, Trevor Ledlie, on the grand front lawn of The Briars
Resort & Spa.
In keeping with the ideals at the core of the cycling tour, which is
to raise awareness of farmers and ecology within the Greenbelt area, a
large array of locally grown produce will be featured at the bountiful
celebration.
“We’ve been responding to the changing values of our guests,”
says Ledlie. “Our menu now identifies ‘Canadian Ingredients,’
and people are choosing that over others.” As well, The Briars has
recently been honoured with the VQA Award of Excellence for their commitment
to Ontario wineries.
“We are more than pleased to host this event at The Briars as an
expression of our support and appreciation for Friends of the Greenbelt
Foundation,” said John & Barbara Sibbald, Resort owners and
operators.
The first “Tour de Greenbelt” is a family-oriented cycling
tour, both accessible and affordable to all, with numerous en-route experiences
prearranged, such as stops at farms, farmer’s markets, wineries,
fall fairs and historic sites.
Described as a “fresh air festival on wheels”, by Friends
of the Greenbelt Foundation (FGF), the Tour will take place over four
distinct circuits on Sept 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th. Mountain Equipment
Co-op has joined with FGF as the presenting sponsor for the Tour. Buses
will be available to return riders to the start point. The Tour costs
$30 per person and is free for children 14 and under.
