Delta Grandview Resort

Ontario’s largest resort-based observatory opens May 12th, 2008:

HUNTSVILLE, ONT. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 – Delta Grandview Resort’s Echo-Valley Observatory officially re-opens its doors on Monday, May 12th, 2008.

The three-storey domed observatory was constructed in 2000, resembling a landlocked lighthouse. Equipped with a state-of-the-art Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope that is capable of revealing objects one million times fainter than the faintest objects visible to the naked eye. The first resort-based astronomical observatory is the largest in Ontario, primarily for public viewing of celestial objects.

Situated at one of the highest points in Muskoka, about 12 kilometers east of Huntsville, the area is renowned for its dark skies free from light pollution. On a clear, dark night, some of the sights you should expect to see at Delta Grandview Resort’s Echo-Valley Observatory are ammonia cloud belts of Jupiter and 4 of its moons, the rings of Saturn and a half dozen of its moons and the Orion Nebula and many other deep sky objects.

Open to the public and guests at Delta Grandview Resort nightly, tickets for a 2-hour session with our Observatory Astronomer Tom Kovacs are $30.00 each and can be purchased by calling Delta Grandview Resort at 705-789-4417.
